Guatemala's Volcano of Fire erupts and forces evacuations
Briefly

The Volcano of Fire in Guatemala has erupted, leading to the evacuation of nearly 300 families. Authorities warn that an additional 30,000 people may be at risk from potential lahars that could devastate nearby towns. The volcano last erupted in June 2023, and the current eruption has resulted in schools closing and a key road shutting down. Given the memory of the deadly 2018 eruption, locals are taking prompt action to evacuate to safety, while officials monitor the situation closely for further developments.
The biggest danger from the volcano are lahars, a mixture of ash, rock, mud and debris, that can bury entire towns.
We were a little worried because a few years ago the volcano became active, referencing the 2018 eruption.
Some 30,000 people more or less are at risk in these three (jurisdictions) and we are trying to have them evacuate or self-evacuate.
The flow of volcanic material is weak to moderate but expected to increase.
