Freeway roadwork to cause delays near wealthy California enclave
Briefly

Major changes will occur on Highway 101 near Montecito beginning this weekend. Caltrans will close the southbound on-ramp at Olive Mill Road for nine months and the southbound off-ramp at San Ysidro Road for three months. The traffic lanes will shift towards the median, divided by safety barriers, maintaining two lanes of traffic. Despite the construction, traffic volumes are not expected to change. Skepticism about the extended project timeline has been expressed by some community members online.
"To alleviate traffic congestion, drivers will shift towards the median divided by safety barriers, allowing there to still be two lanes," project spokesperson Kirsten Ayars told SFGATE on Friday.
"From a traffic perspective, the traffic volumes won't change, but the difference will be overnight on Saturday night," she continued.
The Olive Mill Road on-ramp is expected to close for nine months, while the San Ysidro Road off-ramp is expected to close for three months.
Some Reddit users have expressed skepticism regarding the wider project's timeline.
