Southern California Gas Co. announced the indefinite shutdown of natural gas service to 54 homes in Rancho Palos Verdes due to land movement and safety concerns. The decision follows a recent gas line break, demonstrating ongoing geological hazards in the area.
The utility, SoCalGas, stated, "At this time, SoCalGas does not know when it will be safe to restore service to these communities," reflecting the uncertainty regarding restoration of essential services in affected areas.
Residents have been warned not to attempt restoring service themselves or to connect propane, as such actions can be dangerous. Emergency disaster relief is being considered for affected customers.
As land movement continues to affect natural gas lines, SoCalGas previously shut off service to 135 homes in the Portuguese Bend neighborhood, highlighting the ongoing risk to residents in the area.
