Doral's City Council has taken an unprecedented step towards relocating the aging waste incinerator by agreeing to negotiate terms with Miami-Dade County for its potential transfer.
Residents have consistently raised concerns regarding the unpleasant odors emanating from the waste plant and its perceived negative impact on property values in the surrounding neighborhoods.
While Doral is offering a 30-year contribution of $20 million to support the relocation, Miami-Dade County is requesting a longer 40-year financial commitment from the city.
Doral's only condition for agreeing to the relocation involves safeguarding the former incinerator site from being repurposed for any solid waste management projects.
