Mookie Betts is experiencing an uncharacteristic slump, batting .178 with a .506 OPS over the last 30 games. In a recent game, he went 1-for-4 as the Dodgers' leadoff hitter. Betts acknowledged the struggle, stating, "I've never been this bad for this long." Manager Dave Roberts moved him to the leadoff spot to help refocus Betts on getting on base rather than on mechanics. Roberts plans to keep Betts in this position until Max Muncy returns from injury, hoping it will improve Betts' performance.
"I've never done this. It's all new. I've never been this bad for this long."
"I don't know," said Betts when asked if being the team's everyday shortstop has factored into his struggles.
"I want him to focus more on getting on base," Roberts said of moving Betts to the leadoff spot.
"It's very difficult. I haven't figured it out. So, obviously, it's super difficult for me," Betts expressed about his ongoing struggles at the plate.
