Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw Reveals When He Knew He Was Going to Retire This Season
"Usually we wait to the offseason to kind of make a final call, but I think almost going into the season, we kind of knew that this was going to be it,"
"So I didn't want to say anything in case I changed my mind. But over the course of the season, just how grateful I am to have been healthy, to be out on the mound and be able to pitch, I think it just made it obvious that this was a good sending-off point. And it is. I've had the best time this year. It's been a blast."
Clayton Kershaw decided to retire after the 2025 season, knowing almost from the start of the year that it would be his final season. He expressed gratitude for remaining healthy and being able to pitch, calling 2025 a fitting sending-off and saying he had a blast. Drafted No. 7 overall in 2006, he has been with the Dodgers since 2008. Kershaw is an 11-time All-Star, World Series champion, MVP, three-time Cy Young winner, Triple Crown winner and Gold Glove recipient. He leads active pitchers with a 2.54 career ERA and 15 shutouts, reached 3,000 strikeouts, and posted a 3.53 ERA across 102 innings in 20 starts this season.
