A daring burglary occurred at Love Jewels, a jewelry store in downtown Los Angeles, where thieves tunneled through a concrete wall to steal over $10 million in valuable merchandise. The heist took place around 9:30 PM on Sunday, with the suspects evading detection until Monday morning when employees discovered the breach. Investigators are looking into security footage showing the entry, while the store's owner estimates losses could be as high as $20 million. The burglars disabled security cameras and left behind evidence including a drill's noise and overturned displays.
An unknown number of suspects fled through the same hole and drove off in a late model Chevy truck, he said.
The heist was not discovered until store employees arrived for work on Monday morning.
In security video obtained by KTTV, the sound of a drill can be heard from inside the store.
Initial estimates were that about $10m worth of merchandise was stolen, Cuellar said, adding that the number could change.
