A charity auction led by AnimAID features over 700 pieces of animation art from major studios, including Pixar and Disney, aimed at supporting Los Angeles wildfire victims. The auction includes storyboards, signed artworks, and unique experiences, with Sotheby's waiving commission fees. Key figures like Pete Docter emphasize the rarity of such collaboration among major studios. With an ambitious goal of raising $5 million for over 70 families affected by wildfires, the initiative underscores the tight-knit nature of the animation community and the urgent need for assistance due to insurance challenges.
These are reproductions of the originals that have been signed, there were a limited edition of them done for members of the crew and the animation group.
It is very usual, I mean I think this is the first time ever every major animation studio including Disney and Pixar and DreamWorks and Sony and Warner Brothers, etc etc has come together and support a cause like this.
The goal is to raise $5 million which is a lot of money, but we have over 70 families who lost their homes.
The animation community is very small, everybody knows everybody. I have a lot of friends who lost their homes. This just seems like the least we can do.
