Chief Executive Steven Powell of Southern California Edison stated that winds on Jan. 7 were not strong enough to warrant de-energizing transmission lines despite nearby residents reporting fire activity.
Data from the National Weather Service recorded wind gusts reaching 59 mph just before the fire, with higher gusts of 63 mph and 70 mph noted before and after the incident.
