After a record-breaking heat wave over the weekend, Southern California is set to experience a significant drop in temperatures due to an incoming marine layer. The National Weather Service predicts a decrease of over 20 degrees, with coastal highs around the mid-60s. After a few warm days, the cooler weather will bring drizzle and cloudy conditions by Tuesday. This cooldown comes after many individuals needed rescue from hiking due to heat. Notably, downtown Los Angeles set a new record high of 103 degrees, surpassing a previous record from 1988.
After a brief but record-breaking heat wave over the weekend, a heavy marine layer is expected to move in, bringing much cooler temperatures.
Temperatures will drop more than 20 degrees by Monday, with highs along the beaches hovering in the mid-60s and valleys around 70 degrees.
The cooler respite comes after a surprise surge in temperatures on Saturday that shattered records and led to more than two dozen people needing to be rescued.
A record high of 103 degrees was set in downtown Los Angeles, breaking the previous record of 99 degrees from 1988.
