A 9-year-old girl, heartbroken over her goat 'Cedar' being taken and butchered, settled a lawsuit with Shasta County for $300,000 over the wrongful seizure.

The Long family claimed that the sheriff's involvement in taking their goat was overreach and that they only wanted to resolve a civil ownership issue.

‘Unfortunately, this litigation cannot bring Cedar home,’ said attorney Vanessa Shakib, emphasizing the emotional toll of the case despite the monetary settlement.

The case generated significant public outrage, highlighting issues of animal rights and legal ownership in agricultural programs for children.
