Stormy seas calmed for the Christmas holiday but dangerous high waves, expected to reach 30 feet, return to Northern California, prompting a high surf advisory.
According to meteorologist Brayden Murdock, "This time of year, it's not out of the question" for high swells, although they are not terribly common.
The combination of heavy rain and high surf raises concerns for flooding, especially in areas with poorly drained pavement and local creeks.
Murdock noted that fortunately, "it's one of the coldest times of year, so there's not too many people out and about on the shoreline."
