A woman and a man were discovered dead inside a tent in Westlake, prompting a response from the LAPD. The woman was identified as 46-year-old Lucrecia Macias Barajas, an Army veteran and mother of six. Her family found her body after not being able to reach her for days. The family expressed devastation and rejected narratives labeling her as a homeless drug addict. They set up a GoFundMe to repatriate her body to Nicaragua for burial. Authorities are not treating the deaths as homicides, and the identity of the male victim has not been released.
"It devastated us. We didn't understand how it happened," she told the station. The family told KTLA Barajas was an Army veteran and a loving mother of six children."
"I want people to know she wasn't a homeless drug addict, because that's not true," Becerra said. "Some people are coming to that conclusion and that's not fair. She was just at the wrong place at the wrong time."
