A structure fire destroyed the central house and two bungalows of the Hollywood Center Motel in the early morning hours. The Los Angeles Fire Department reported the fire began at 5:42 a.m. and required 70 firefighters to extinguish. Battalion Chief Tim Ramirez reported "heavy fire" on two floors of the central house, nicknamed El Nido, which dates to the early 1900s. A 42-year-old man was pulled from the building and taken to a hospital in stable condition. After extinguishing the fire, the fire department razed the central building with excavators. Preservationists had sought landmark status for the long-deteriorating property, which includes 13 Colonial Revival bungalows and dates to 1905.
