UK gigabit broadband continues progress but overbuild fears persist | Computer Weekly
Briefly

The latest edition of Think Broadband's report reveals that the UK's broadband market is evolving rapidly, with over 75% of households now having access to full-fibre broadband. While Openreach remains the leader, alternative network providers, referred to as altnets, are pivotal in offering fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) services, especially in underserved areas. Recent mergers among these altnets are setting the stage for more competitive offerings. Gigabit network coverage has also expanded to 86.6%, although growth has slowed due to network overbuilding among existing providers.
The report shows that full-fibre access is now available to over 75% of UK households, indicating a significant increase and strengthening competition among providers.
YouFibre and Brsk's merger, as well as Zzoomm's Full Fibre acquisition, suggest that the altnet landscape is preparing for efficiency and greater investments.
