Teenager honoured for hygiene kit for the homeless

Rohan Mehta, a 17-year-old from Kensington, founded the In The Bag project, providing hygiene kits for the homeless. Since its inception two years ago, he has donated 130 bags filled with toiletries to help those in need. Recognized with the Young Achiever award, Rohan's motivation stems from a desire to make a tangible difference in addressing homelessness. He emphasizes the importance of hygiene for self-esteem and employability, aiming not just to raise awareness but to provide practical support that restores dignity to recipients.
Rohan Mehta said, "I always knew I wanted to do something to be part of the solution... I wanted to create something practical that could really help people."
Rohan emphasized, "When you're homeless, you don't have access to a lot of these things and when you're able to stay in a shelter overnight... it makes you feel a lot better."
