Rolls-Royce secures nearly 600m in UK government cash to develop small reactors
"The investment would help strengthen our energy security, create skilled jobs and help to build a new generation of homegrown nuclear technology that will power our economy for decades to come."
"Rolls-Royce SMR has more than 1,000 employees working to produce technology that will also be installed at Temelin in the Czech Republic."
"Tufan Erginbilgic, chief executive of Rolls-Royce, said it was a critical milestone for the business and for the UK as it works towards a golden age of new nuclear."
Rolls-Royce has received up to £599 million from Britain's national wealth fund to develop small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs) at Wylfa, Anglesey. This funding aims to reduce costs and accelerate installation of nuclear power stations. The investment is expected to create around 1,000 jobs and strengthen energy security. The government has signed a contract with Rolls-Royce SMR and Great British Energy Nuclear to commence work on SMRs. The initiative is part of a broader effort to establish a new generation of homegrown nuclear technology in the UK.
