Man left paralysed by shooting takes on marathon
Briefly

Darren Awol, a Londoner who was left paralyzed after a shooting in 2011, is gearing up to participate in the London Marathon. Overcoming severe challenges, including suicidal thoughts, he emphasizes the importance of self-belief and resilience. Awol plans to walk at the race's start and end but will use a wheelchair for the majority of the route. Supported by his brother and a physiotherapist, he aims to inspire others by demonstrating that with determination, one can defy odds and pursue their goals, highlighting that self-reliance is key in overcoming life's trials.
Your limitations are as far as you allow them to be: it's not about the medal but being able to do something I never thought I'd be able to.
It's been daunting because I haven't been in wheelchair for 10 or 11 years so going back to learn how to use a wheelchair has been hard.
I want people to think: a guy who defied all the odds did it and they can do it and turn up for themselves.
It gave me the strength to keep going and push through the dark times adjusting to my new reality.
