feilden clegg bradley weaves past and future into sheffield's layered urban transformation
Briefly

FCBStudios has completed 'Heart of the City' in Sheffield, a redevelopment project initiated by the city council to enhance urban regeneration. The design integrates new structures with historical elements, including retained facades and newly opened routes, aiming to create a vibrant mixed-use neighborhood. At the core, the Cambridge Street Collective features a major food and events hub, spotlighting both the preservation of heritage and innovative, sustainable architecture. This redevelopment is expected to create about 7,000 new jobs, emphasizing Sheffield's cultural and economic potential.
Instead of a singular large-scale intervention, the masterplan overlays new structures onto the existing urban grain, preserving heritage while promoting commercial and cultural activities.
The Cambridge Street Collective transforms a deteriorated city block into a multi-programmed food and events hub, incorporating 200-year-old frontages and Europe's largest purpose-built food hall.
