Santander is set to close its North End Croydon branch on June 16 as part of a nationwide initiative to shut 95 out of its 444 branches by June 2025. This decision places 750 jobs at risk, representing over 4% of the bank's UK workforce. Five branches in South London, including Croydon, will be affected. In addition to closures, the bank is also reducing hours at 36 branches and converting 18 into counter-free locations, aiming to adapt to changing customer behaviors while balancing digital banking needs with personal service.
As customer behaviour changes, we are ensuring that our branches remain fit for the future. Our new combination of full-service branches, alongside work cafes, counter-free branches and reduced hours branches, aims to provide the right balance between digital banking and face-to-face money management and guidance.
Earlier this year, Santander announced it would be closing 95 of its 444 high street branches nationwide from June 2025, putting 750 jobs at risk.
