"A recent ruling by London Tribunals ordered the council to cancel any penalty charge notices (PCNs) after adjudicators found the enforcement area to be 'disproportionately large' and 'fundamentally flawed'."
"This was an example of a yellow box that created more problems than it solved, specifically for buses exiting East Croydon Station as well as pointless fines for many drivers."
"Credit to Croydon Council for making this change; it is to be commended. Other councils should take note and chop back their oversized boxes."
Croydon Council has modified a yellow box junction that generated nearly £2 million in fines over ten years due to a ruling by London Tribunals. The enforcement area was found to be disproportionately large and fundamentally flawed. Since enforcement began in January 2017, the council issued 26,244 penalty charge notices, each costing £160. The junction was altered to a 'keep clear' marking, eliminating penalties for vehicles stopping within it. An internet personality criticized the original layout for causing unnecessary issues for drivers and buses.
