Victim Alex Coughlan remembered at funeral service as the 'glue' that held family together
Alex Coughlan died in hospital three days after being assaulted in Blanchardstown, Dublin, nearly two weeks earlier. Two teenagers face court charges for assault causing serious harm and robbery. Hundreds attended the funeral at Staffords Funeral Home in Ballyfermot, described as a celebration of his life. His sister Zara delivered an emotional eulogy, and mourners offered rugby and personal items, including a Leinster Rugby hat and a Ninja turtle soft toy. Hospital staff formed a guard of honour and sang Ireland’s Call during organ donation surgery, and mourners sang Ireland’s Call again as his remains left the funeral home. Civil celebrant Declan Croghan officiated, with chief mourners including John and Brigid, Sonia, Philip and Jack, and Zara.
"Mourners sang Happy Birthday to mugging victim Alex Coughlan at his funeral service on Saturday as the Dubliner was laid to rest on his 38th birthday."
