Sixty UK lawmakers have addressed a letter to Foreign Secretary David Lammy, criticizing Israel's actions in Gaza, which they classify as ethnic cleansing. They specifically condemn plans by Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz to confine Gaza's population to a small area, likening this to concentration camps. The lawmakers urge Lammy to prevent crimes against humanity in the region and recognize Palestine as a state, following similar steps taken by French President Emmanuel Macron, asserting that recognition is crucial for achieving a two-state solution.
Nearly 60 lawmakers in the United Kingdom have written to Foreign Secretary David Lammy, calling out Israel's plans for the ethnic cleansing of Gaza and demanding the country immediately recognise Palestine as a state.
They urged the foreign secretary to stop Israel's operational plan for crimes against humanity, citing Israeli human rights lawyer Michael Sfard who stated that Palestinians were being pushed to the southern tip of Gaza.
The letter criticized Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz's plans to force Gaza's 2.1 million Palestinians into a so-called humanitarian city, described by some analysts as akin to a concentration camp.
The letter also echoed French President Emmanuel Macron's recent announcement intent to recognize a Palestinian state, stressing the urgency to not undermine support for a two-state solution.
