Veteran broadcaster Selina Scott, aged 74, detailed a traumatic attack in central London where she was assaulted by a gang of seven or eight individuals. While walking past a Waterstones bookshop in Piccadilly, she was struck on the knee and found herself surrounded by the group attempting to steal her designer backpack. Although she managed to hold onto her bag, they eventually stole her purse containing important items. Scott criticized the absence of police in busy areas, highlighting a failed safety presence and expressing her shock and trauma from the incident.
It was slick, brief and clearly engineered to happen in the middle of a crowd.
I still feel shattered after what has happened. I can't believe it happened to me.
