Tributes described him as a true gentleman and “one of the good guys,” noting that his presence brightened days at work and during shared moments such as chats and pints. Former colleagues recalled training with him and meeting him later in Shannon, saying he had not changed. His family includes his mother Kathleen, siblings Timmy and Syreeta, and extended relatives, and mourners expressed condolences and prayers for peace and comfort.

You are now back in your dad's arms, and may you both look down on your heartbroken family." Other friends said: "We worked (and had an 'odd' pint) with Shane when he was stationed in Tralee. He stood out among us all; he was such a lovely genuine young fellow. In later years we met him in Shannon, hadn't changed a bit. May Shane rest in peace.""
"A former colleague said: "I trained with Shane and have some lovely memories of a true gentleman. Your day was always brighter after a chat and coffee with Shane. I can still see his infectious smile. His loss is immeasurable to you all. May he rest in peace and may you find some comfort and strength to face the days ahead." A colleague at Shannon garda station added: "I hope you're at peace now, I still cannot believe you're gone. You were always a pleasure to work with; your stories, your thoughts, things you loved to do.""
