'Tower block development will destroy popular market'
Briefly

Residents near Swiss Cottage are concerned about a proposed high-rise development by Regal London, fearing it will disrupt the pedestrian-friendly area of Eton Avenue. Tony Kay, a local resident, expressed fears about traffic chaos during and after construction, especially during school hours. Critics like Elaine Chambers argue the development won't address local housing needs, emphasizing its potential to become an architectural eyesore. Regal counters concerns by affirming that construction access will be managed carefully, though opposition remains strong regarding the project's overall impact.
Tony Kay, a long-time resident, expressed concerns about the impact of the planned development on local traffic, stating, "The whole thing is likely to be a nightmare, it's going to completely muck up the pedestrian area. When the schools close at 4pm it's gridlock round here." He fears that the new tower's service road will further obstruct the area.
Elaine Chambers from the Winchester Road Residents' Association criticized the project, saying, "The public here is not so stupid as to believe this build will offer any housing for British people. It will do nothing to alleviate our housing crisis, and it will blight the area as an architectural eyesore."
A Regal spokesperson defended the access arrangements, claiming, "Access arrangements remain the same as in the consented scheme. Construction access is from Avenue Road, residential servicing is predominantly via the basement and some requirements such as waste collection are via Eton Avenue, all as agreed."
