The beloved London city farm being threatened with closure
Briefly

Mudchute Farm, located on the Isle of Dogs, has been a cherished city farm for over 50 years, hosting more than 100 animals. Despite being a beloved attraction and providing free access to green space, its future is threatened by the inability to secure a long-term lease from the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. The farm's trustees argue that the newly adopted council policy of shorter leases hampers their ability to plan sustainably and secure necessary funding. A petition has been launched requesting a 30-year lease to support future operations and programming.
Sue Mortimer, the chair of the Mudchute Association Charity Board, expressed concerns, stating, 'It is now London Borough of Tower Hamlets' policy to offer shorter leases of up to 15 years, which would make it near-impossible for Mudchute to plan for the future.'
The Mudchute has launched a petition requesting the council for a minimum lease of 30 years to allow it to raise funds and plan for its future properly.
