Teens vandalised Carrigaline’s community park by tearing two fixed benches out of the ground and throwing them around, leaving metal pieces sticking up. Reports also described a large group congregating near the gazebo, electric scooters being ridden at speed with two people onboard and no helmets, and eggs thrown from the skate park that hit cars passing by. Councillors at the Carrigaline Municipal District meeting called on the local authority and the Gardaí to take action. Requests included installing CCTV and increasing patrols, with concerns that refurbishment could be undermined by repeat anti-social behaviour. Carrigaline has a part-time Garda station, while the nearest 24-hour station is in Cork city.
"A poster on a Facebook community noticeboard reported: "a large group of teens congregated by the gazebo. Two electric scooters being ridden around the park at speed, with two people onboard each, and no helmets.""
"Another reported: "5 teen lads throwing eggs from the skate park and hitting cars passing by.""
""Two benches were taken up from the ground and thrown around the place. There were metal pieces sticking up from the ground. It's devastating to see such behaviour," Cllr Una McCarthy said."
""We're about to refurbish the playground and the worry is that if we put in a new playground and then all of a sudden this anti-social behaviour and vandalism happens again. We need to be proactive about it here and find is there anything we can do to try and eliminate it.""
