'Such a tragic loss of life' - Brothers who drowned off Clare's west coast named locally
"It's such a tragic loss of life and the community is very, very saddened by it, and it's something we don't want to hear happening, particularly so close to home and in our community."
"The area itself is very well known, a blue pool area. There's a natural rock pool there that people swim in, and there's also another area to the left of it that is a famous surfing spot."
"Unfortunately, it's not the first incident at this spot, and there's been a number of tragedies over the years."
Two Afghan brothers, part of the Limerick community for about 10 years, drowned while fishing at Pulleen Bay. They were part of a group of five and had previously visited the area. The Irish Coast Guard responded to reports of the incident on March 31, launching a search operation that included a helicopter and lifeboats. The bodies were recovered by 4pm. The local Afghan community plans a gathering in their memory, and local officials expressed deep condolences, highlighting the area's dangerous conditions and past tragedies.
