Former Chief Superintendent Tom Simons was dismissed after a gross misconduct hearing found him guilty of abusing his role for sexual purposes. The independent hearing was prompted by multiple allegations against him, leading to an investigation by the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC). Despite the Crown Prosecution Service deciding not to take criminal action, the misconduct panel concluded that Simons engaged in inappropriate sexual behaviour at work and failed to disclose a relationship. His behavior warranted dismissal, and his name was added to the College of Policing Barred List to prevent future roles in UK policing.
The hearing, chaired by Assistant Chief Constable John Murphy, found Tom Simons had abused his position for sexual purposes, resulting in his dismissal without notice.
The panel concluded that Mr Simons' behaviour, which included engaging in sexualised conduct with colleagues and sexual behaviour without consent, amounted to gross misconduct.
Chief Constable Ben-Julian Harrington stressed there is no place in policing for sexual misconduct, highlighting the importance of transparency and accountability in law enforcement.
The IOPC's investigation showcased the serious nature of the allegations against Mr Simons, ultimately leading to his placement on the College of Policing Barred List.
