"The number of murders recorded in London last year dropped to its lowest level per capita since records began. According to the Metropolitan Police, there were 97 homicides in 2025, 11 per cent fewer than the 109 in 2024 and down 36 per cent from 153 in 2019. It was the least killings since 95 took place 11 years ago in 2014, despite the capital's population having risen by more than half a million since then."
"At the end of last year, we had the lowest level of young people killed since the beginning of the century. That's a fact. Whether that feeds into people feeling safer is a different question. To be fair to the Tories at City Hall, they made the point it was welcome news, that those figures had gone down. I think that's what all Londoners want. Now if you happen to be from America and you have got other strong opinions, maybe you're playing a different agenda."
Homicides in London fell to 97 in 2025, an 11% decrease from 2024 and 36% lower than 2019, representing the lowest per-capita level on record. Teenage murders fell to eight, matching levels last seen in 2012. Domestic-related killings increased by 58% compared with 2024. Ethnic breakdowns of homicide victims were not released proactively by the Metropolitan Police. The Office for National Statistics indicates London accounted for nearly a third of national knife crime with 15,689 offences in the year to June. The city saw about 80,000 phone-snatching incidents and a YouGov poll found 61% of Britons view the capital as unsafe.
