Protest over animals maimed and killed by catapults in Orpington park
Briefly

Campaigners from Rae Gellel and Greenwich Wildlife Network are organizing a demonstration to raise awareness about alarming catapult attacks on wildlife in Priory Gardens. Reports indicate that the area has become notorious for these violent incidents, with numerous animals suffering from severe injuries or fatalities. The charity has documented cases of animals being harmed almost daily since 2018, often at the hands of boys aged 12 to 18. The demonstration aims to mobilize residents to help distribute information and advocate for wildlife protections against these attacks that affect both animals and the local community.
According to Greenwich Wildlife Network, Priory Gardens has become a hotspot for catapult attacks, with incidents reported multiple times per week.
The charity describes injuries ranging from fractured bones to animals losing eyes or dying outright from head trauma.
In 2023, a group of youths shot a mallard in the head with a catapult at Southmere Lake in front of multiple witnesses.
Since its founding in 2018, the charity says it has received almost daily reports of animals being shot at with catapults in parks.
