Police launch new appeal 30 years on from murder of Melanie Hall
"The murder of Melanie Hall is one of the longest running and highest profile investigations ever carried out by Avon and Somerset Police, with hundreds of officers working on the case over the years. Melanie's family has endured unimaginable pain and uncertainty for almost three decades and have shown extraordinary strength and resilience throughout this time."
"The last confirmed sighting of her was at 1.10am on Sunday June 9, when her friends left the club. She was sat by the side of the dancefloor on her own. As we approach this significant anniversary, I want people to think back to the weekend of June 8 and 9 in 1996. England were playing Switzerland in the opening game of the Euros, and the centre of Bath was exceptionally busy."
Melanie Hall, a 25-year-old hospital clerical worker, disappeared from Cadillacs nightclub in Bath on June 9, 1996, after a night out with friends. Her last confirmed sighting was at 1.10am when friends left the club and she remained seated by the dancefloor alone. Her remains were discovered on October 5, 2009, next to the M5 motorway junction 14. Detective Chief Inspector Ben Lavender is leading the investigation and will make a new public appeal on BBC One's Crimewatch Live, featuring an interview with her father Steve and sister Dominique. The case represents one of Avon and Somerset Police's longest-running and highest-profile investigations, with hundreds of officers working on it over nearly three decades.
