A nearly 200-year-old pub, the Welsh Tavern in Dartford, was destroyed by a fire on June 11, with investigations into its suspicious cause underway. Firefighters worked to control the blaze, which left the building's roof destroyed and its walls charred, with no injuries reported. The pub, which closed in 2022, had previously had plans submitted for its demolition, although those plans were withdrawn. Emergency services quickly responded by closing nearby roads during the firefighting efforts, but the situation has since stabilized.
Kent Police is treating the cause of the blaze as suspicious and officers are investigating the matter.
