Spaces & Stories Limited seeks Lewisham Council's permission to serve alcohol at Deptford Storehouse from 8am to 10.30pm during events, with potential crowds of 500 people. Local residents expressed strong opposition, fearing noise levels and an increase in crime. Critics, including long-term resident Gizella Suki, voiced concerns that the venue is inappropriate for the tranquility of the neighborhood, highlighting its potential negative impact on their quality of life. Despite reducing the maximum capacity from thousands, the application faces opposition from law enforcement, raising ongoing community tensions.
This area is completely unsuitable for crowds of up to 500 people to come and go. I believe this number of people will increase the crime rate in the area and residents will potentially become collateral damage to this.
If the events [are] taking over the summer, we're going to have our windows open. It's incredibly stressful and upsetting for residents. It's a big shed. It's not sound insulated.
