Ken Chubb and his wife Shirley Barrie founded the Wakefield Tricycle Company in 1972, initially kicking off their theatre ventures in a King's Cross pub. Over the years, they performed at various venues before successfully persuading Brent Council to establish a permanent theatre on Kilburn High Road in 1980. With a focus on community relevance, their theatre emphasized new works reflecting diverse cultural backgrounds. Shirley's contributions included writing plays and advocating for representations of West Indian, South Asian, and Irish interests, fostering a sense of inclusivity in the performing arts until her passing in 2018.

The minute we stepped inside the Forester's Hall we knew this was the place! It was divided up into multiple offices with partitions but the outline of the small proscenium arch and the lovely vaulted ceiling was still there.
