New children's home to be built in Surbiton to meet spiralling demand
Briefly

Kingston Council has approved a contract for a new 2.8 million children's home on Chamberlain Way, Surbiton, aimed at addressing the rising demand for placements, which has increased by 14% in four years. This home will allow more children to remain in their community, significantly reducing costs. Designed to accommodate three children with facilities for staff, it will be operated by Achieving for Children (AfC). The initiative aims to provide high-quality living arrangements close to children's families, enhancing their well-being and easing financial pressures on the council.

The council faces rising pressures to provide residential accommodation to children and young people under its statutory duties.
