A 53-year-old woman was fined and disqualified from driving after a crash in Drogheda. She pleaded guilty to drink driving and dangerous driving for incidents on August 1, 2024, at John Street. A car turning from Shop Street drove on the wrong side of the road and, when the driver attempted to correct, mounted a steel barrier and toppled over. Breath samples later showed an over-the-limit reading of 90mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath. She had no previous convictions and apologized after a dispute with a friend following drinking to excess. The court imposed a €500 fine and a three-year disqualification for drink driving, plus a further €500 fine for dangerous driving with a concurrent two-year ban.
