Lone sailor rescued while adrift on yacht in the Irish Sea
Briefly

A sailor's yacht suffered engine failure in Dublin Bay while traveling to Northern Ireland, leading to a Coast Guard rescue from Howth. Despite challenging sea conditions, the lifeboat reached the yacht within 15 minutes. Fred Connolly, the crew leader, commended the sailor for calling for help promptly. The lifeboat crew found no immediate medical issues with the sailor, but due to the yacht's potential hazard to shipping lanes at dusk, they towed the vessel to safety. The RNLI warns mariners to plan ahead and have safety measures in place as spring brings increased boating activity.
"The sailor did the right thing in calling for help when he realised he was in difficulty. The sea conditions were challenging, and an hour later, darkness would have been setting in, and the yacht could have been a major hazard to shipping traffic going to and from Dublin Port."
"Having failed to restart the engine, and given the potential navigational hazard of a yacht drifting close to the shipping lane into Dublin Port, a decision was made to attach the tow line and bring the yacht to Howth."
