Gibson's Engineering has won a two-year maintenance contract for 23 London Underground wagons to be overhauled at the historic St Rollox Works in Glasgow. This site, which dates back to the 1850s, had closed in 2019 but was revitalized under new ownership in 2021. The overhaul will extend the operational life of the wagons by eight years and is expected to create 40 jobs in the region. This project signals a promising future for the St Rollox facility, previously deemed at risk of closure.
Sharp-eyed observers may soon spot some London Underground wagons in Glasgow, as a local engineering works has won a maintenance contract to overhaul them.
According to the contract tender, the overhaul project will extend their operational life by eight years.
Paul Sweeney MSP said: "I am delighted to see St. Rollox, 'The Caley' Railway Works and its new operator Gibson's Engineering go from strength to strength."
The London Underground contract is expected to create 40 jobs in the area.
