"From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging."
"London has recorded its lowest number of homicides in over a decade, new figures from the Metropolitan Police confirm. The capital saw 97 homicides in 2025, an 11 per cent decrease from the 109 reported in 2024, marking the lowest total since 2014 when 95 were registered. Despite London's expanding population over the past decade, the Met highlighted that last year's homicide rate per capita was the lowest on record, at 1.1 per 100,000 residents."
The Independent funds on-the-ground reporting across issues including reproductive rights, climate change, and Big Tech, and produces documentaries such as 'The A Word' about American women fighting for reproductive rights. The Independent avoids paywalls and asks for donations to support reporters who provide reporting from both sides of stories. London saw 97 homicides in 2025, an 11% drop from 109 in 2024 and the lowest total since 2014. The Met reported a record-low homicide rate of 1.1 per 100,000 residents, well below rates in New York, Berlin, and Paris. Met Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley credited increased arrests, live facial recognition, and targeted action against gangs, organised criminals, and predatory offenders for the decline.
