'Life has to go on. I honestly don't know what else I would have done besides farming' - how this Wicklow woman took charge of the 550-sheep farm when her husband died
Briefly

Following the death of her husband in 2013, Lucy Tottenham took the reins of Cloragh Farm in Co Wicklow, making it an organic operation with 400 EasyCare ewes. She sold her previous flock and embraced the EasyCare breed for their resilience and management suitability. Additionally, Lucy adopted continuous-cover forestry practices, influenced by the historical landscapes akin to those where The Vikings was filmed, to enhance biodiversity and sustainability on her farm, reemphasizing her commitment to a healthier environment through organic farming.
After the loss of my husband, I had to make a choice: either to give up the farm or to carry on and make it my own. I decided to take on the farm myself and transform it into something sustainable and fruitful.
Switching to EasyCares has allowed me to raise a more resilient flock. Not only are they easier to manage, but they thrive in our local conditions, which aligns perfectly with my goal of organic farming.
Opting for continuous-cover forestry was a sustainable step I wanted to embrace. It respects the land's natural rhythms and promotes biodiversity, reminiscent of the ancient landscapes where The Vikings was filmed.
Going organic was not just a choice for better market opportunities, but a commitment to a healthier environment and a more sustainable way of farming that I am passionate about.
