A court in Islamabad has annulled the sentence of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his close aide, former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, in a case related to the leaking of state secrets.
Khan claims the diplomatic cable proves his removal was a conspiracy. He was found guilty of misusing it, while denying the charge with allegations against political opponents and military.
Despite the Islamabad High Court declaring the sentence void, Khan continues in jail due to another case where he and his wife were sentenced for an Islamic law violation.
Senior leader Bukhari mentioned the cases against Khan were trumped-up. It remains uncertain if Qureshi will be released after the annulment of the sentence.
