Alan Savage, former chairman of Inverness Caledonian Thistle (ICT), has urged the troubled football club to relocate to a smaller stadium to improve its financial sustainability. After being placed into administration due to significant debt, ICT faces liquidation amid difficulties in finding a new owner. Currently, the Caledonian Stadium's size and operating costs pose challenges. Savage has provided substantial funding but needs additional support as he indicates that a potential new stadium at Inverness Campus could alleviate financial pressures, allowing the team to focus on survival before the season ends.
"I've run out of money," he said. "The place is rocking and rolling. I think people are enjoying themselves more... But it needs cash, and there are legacy issues such as the stadium being too big and too costly."
Mr Savage suggested a new stadium could be built at Inverness Campus, already home to Inverness College UHI and the NHS' Highland National Treatment Centre, addressing the current venue's financial burdens.
