His body was found nearly two years later in an underground run-off tank near the farmhouse where he was last seen. The subsequent trial became one of the longest in the Irish State’s history. The case exposed a love rivalry publicly, led to a conviction, and resulted in another man being implicated after being long buried. In May 2019, Patrick Quirke was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison, while he continued to deny involvement. His daughter Michelle Ryan marked the anniversary of her father’s death privately and vowed to contest any potential release of the killer.
