John McGinn supported 18-year-old Lennon Miller, who recently expressed aspirations to become Scotland's best player. McGinn reminisced about his own nerve-wracking debut after being called up at 21 while still playing in a lower division. He recalled the criticism he faced but insisted that similar experiences can shape young players like Miller positively. Scotland assistant coach John Carver highlighted the need for guidance for Miller after his confident but potentially premature statement about his future talent.
On hearing that he had been called up for the Nations League play-off double header against Greece, fellow midfielder Lennon had said: "I'm obviously not going to go in and be the best player there, but I believe I could maybe in a couple of months be the best player there."
He’s probably thinking - why did I say that? But I said plenty of stupid things when I was coming through at St Mirren." McGinn recalled his first call-up and the nerves he felt from veteran players.
