Wimbledon’s iconic viewing area, known by different names across generations, is undergoing a multimillion-pound redevelopment to boost capacity by 20% and enhance accessibility for wheelchair users. Scheduled for completion by the 2027 championships, plans include a new pergola for shade and rain protection, environmentally sustainable pathways, and improved navigation for all attendees. AELTC chair, Deborah Jevans, emphasizes the excitement of these updates, particularly for increased wheelchair access, as they celebrate the 150th anniversary of the championships.
The redevelopment of our world-famous Hill, in time for the championships 2027, will allow even more tennis fans to enjoy its unique atmosphere and vantage point.
I am particularly pleased that these plans will increase the accessibility of the Hill for our guests using wheelchairs or who have additional accessibility requirements.
Plans include a new pergola that will provide a space for more hanging plants to provide shade and protection from British summer rain.
New accessible pathways to cross the slope aim to make the Hill easier to navigate for wheelchair users.
