Greenwich campaigner warns DLR station closure will be 'necessary inconvenience'
Briefly

The Cutty Sark DLR station in Greenwich is set to close for about a year beginning May 31 to facilitate the replacement of four malfunctioning escalators. This long-awaited work has been pushed for by local advocates after years of issues, including passengers having to navigate 121 stairs or an unreliable lift. Campaign leader Karin Tearle acknowledges the inconvenience but insists it’s essential for improving accessibility. She urges Transport for London (TfL) to provide proper signage to redirect passengers to the nearby Greenwich station during the closure.
Karin Tearle stated that while the closure of Cutty Sark station for a year is inconvenient, it is necessary for the replacement of four broken escalators.
TfL announced the closure of Cutty Sark station from May 31 until next spring, necessitated by the replacement of escalators that have failed repeatedly over the years.
Tearle, a campaigner, expressed hope that the escalator work would be timely, contrasting it with past projects that extended to 18 months.
She emphasized the need for proper signage at Greenwich station during the closure to guide passengers, especially tourists, back to the town center.
