Residents report lengthy southbound delays on Drogheda’s Dublin Road, with traffic lights near Southgate Shopping Centre appearing out of sync. Local councillors say the congestion has become unacceptable and has disrupted travel to work, school, and appointments. One councillor says she has repeatedly raised traffic management concerns at council level and plans to raise them again after the latest disruption. Another councillor says the issue was raised with Meath County Council after previous complaints, including repair of a faulty detector and adding 10 seconds to green lights on the main road. The changes improved flow temporarily, but delays returned later.
"Thanks for bringing this up. I have previously raised the issue of traffic light timing and congestion at council meetings, particularly around Scotch Hall Shopping Centre, the train station, and Southgate, and I will be raising it again,"
"The level of congestion on the Dublin Road is becoming unacceptable. The other day, I had to drive to work and ended up going through Mornington and Marsh Road just to get across town. It should not be this difficult for people trying to get to work, school, or appointments."
"Something has to be done, and I will certainly be putting this issue forward again for urgent review."
"This is an ongoing issue which I raised with Cllr Stephen McKee and Meath County Council recently. A faulty detector was repaired and we've been told an additional 10 seconds have been added to the green lights on the main road for the past few weeks. It seems to have eased congestion but it felt like we were back to square one this afternoon."
