The 2027 Tour de France will feature a city-centre Grand Depart in Edinburgh and traverse through England and Wales. This event marks the third time the Tour has begun in Britain and introduces an unprecedented element— the Tour de France Femmes will also commence in the UK. Celebrated cyclist Mark Cavendish noted the excitement of crowds experienced during previous races and emphasized how such events inspire cycling enthusiasm among citizens. The collaboration between UK Sport and the Tour organizers, aimed at integrating both men’s and women’s races, reflects a push for equality in the sport.
The men's Tour de France will return to Britain in July 2027 with a spectacular city-centre Grand Depart in Edinburgh and three stages that trace a route from Scotland through England and into Wales.
In an unprecedented move, the Tour de France Femmes will also begin in the UK in 2027, with the start of that race expected to be staged in Yorkshire later in the summer.
Cycling's been at the forefront of pushing equality. I think it's brilliant, Cavendish said, highlighting the inclusion of both men's and women's races in the UK.
The conversations between Edinburgh and Paris stretch back almost 20 years, but the project became more ambitious once the Tour de France Femmes was relaunched three years ago.
